Excel Worksheet completed with formulas and an example of tables used to calculate the Difficulty Level (D) and Discrimination Index (d) for an individual Multiple Choice test item.

Four tables are used to illustrate calculations on each of four answer choices, A, B, C, and D.  Correct Answers are marked with an *

Download this Excel worksheet, based on a 4-item multiple choice test, for use in determining your Difficulty Level (D) and Discrimination Index (d) of each item.

Formulas are already present within the worksheet, just add your Number of Correct Responses for the High Group and Number of Correct Responses for the Low Group, the Number of Students who choose each Distractor in the Low and High Groups.  Sums, D, and d, will automatically calculate.  Use the table in which your correct Answer is marked with an *
